Recreating Lynch's red room scene for The Hallway bake club.

Every Monday at The Hallway we have bake club. Every baker has to link their creation back to David Lynch in some way. This was the last bake club of the year and the last time we'd pay homage to Lynch so the pressure was on to do a good send off.

In Twin Peaks, Agent Dale Cooper visits the dead in his dreams in a place called the Red Room. It’s a space full of meaning. From the people he meets there to the red curtains and strangely patterned floor. Fans have poured over the details of these scenes to unpick what’s going on. In true Lynch style though it’s often oblique and difficult to understand. These strange scenes became synonymous for the weirdness that fans of the show came to love. They also demonstrate Lynch’s love of the surreal. The red room scene has been referenced in pop culture many times and even got itself a little cameo in The Simpsons when Lisa talks to chief Wiggum in a dream sequence. My idea pays direct homage to this classic, surreal scene from Twin Peaks. I recreated the Red Room in our agency's reception and filmed the whole thing in reverse to achieve the weird sounding lines. For good measure I shot the baking in reverse. Bake club usually happens at 4:11 but I moved it to 11:04 (because backwards). After everyone watched the film I revealed the cookies which were just piles of flour and cocoa powder (because funny).
