The ABC show Gruen approached us to feature in their first episode of the new season on a segment called ‘The Pitch’. In it two agencies duke it out with an ad that answers a seemingly impossible brief, namely to ‘Persuade Australians to eat koalas’.
We recognised that the plight of koala is actually rather dire so we wanted to create an ad that tried to genuinely tackle their dwindling numbers. Instead of making an ad pleading with people to help we poked fun at capitalism by saying that in order to genuinely save them we need to do to them what we did to the humble chicken over 100 years ago. Farm them.
